What is the Algonkian Running Club?
The Algonkian Running Club is a diverse group of people who have a common interest in running and staying healthy.  We are an affiliate member of the Road Runners Club of America (RRCA) and a chartered 501(c)(3) organization. 

Where are you located?
The club meets at various locations around the Cascades, Potomac Falls, Lower Island, and Countryside communities.

How do I find out about upcoming club runs and events?
Check our Events or Facebook pages for details.

How do I find out about upcoming races?
Check our Races page for details.

Is this group for fast runners only?
No.  Runners of all levels are welcome.  We have runners of all abilities, ages, and experience levels.  You can be sure to find someone that runs at your pace.

How long are the runs?  What if I can't finish the run?
The Saturday club runs are usually 6 miles and can optionally be shortened to 3 miles if needed.  Additional miles can also be added if desired.  If you can't run the entire distance, just let someone know and they will help you configure a shorter route.

Do you offer any training programs?
We offer weekly programs of Hill Repeats on Tuesday evenings and Track workouts on Thursday mornings.  We also periodically offer special training programs such as our recent 'Couch to 5K' program.

Where does the club meet during bad weather?
Rain or shine – we’ll will run! 

Do I need any special gear or equipment?
No special gear or clothes are needed.  Many runners will wear a GPS watch.  Please remember to bring water on hot days.  We do not provide water.

Do I have to join the club to come out and run?
Membership will allow access to planned workouts, communications about upcoming runs/races, and various social gatherings during the year.  Everyone is welcome to give us a try before joining.

Everyone is welcome!  

What will I get for my membership?
We ask our members to pay a nominal membership fee to offset the costs of club operations which include hosting, RRCA insurance and other club costs, such as this website. When you become a member, you will have a support network of runners for motivation, running/race advice, and fellowship.

How much does membership cost?
The following are membership dues for 2017:  $25 Individual, $35 Family

Are there any social activities?
After Saturday group runs, the group convenes informally for coffee/snacks.  The club periodically has social events such as happy hours, parties, and the annual year end celebration of our running achievements and goals for the upcoming year.  All social events are optional.
